Beyond Print is an apt description for the direction the industry once known simply as “quick print” is going. In the grand tradition of the ever-changing landscape of our world, we continue to change, to grow, to evolve. We changed to become – and still are – small commercial printers. We became print service providers. We are becoming market service providers. And tomorrow we will be some other type of service provider.
But the one constant that we all share is that we are in business to serve our customers – no matter what we call ourselves. The object of the exercise remains the same: to help your customers better communicate with their customers. By attending Conference, you signal that you want to be successful. Bob Hall, senior consultant for Quick Printing magazine, says it well. “There really isn’t any magic formula for being successful, even in hard times. Despite industry changes, you have to be a good business person before you can be a successful quick or small commercial printer.”
But you do have to adapt to change. Crossing one’s arms and glaring at progress will not lead any of us to success. In 1991, offset accounted for 45% of sales. Today it makes up only 22% of sales. Digital accounts for 45% of sales, up from zero just 20 years ago. And 35% of our sales come from something other than ink or toner on paper. Change is not coming: change is here.
Our entire program this year is geared toward helping you go Beyond Print. Workshops will help you see the benefit of selling web solutions, and how to take advantage of the new world of communications, including the various social media. Marketing in today’s world will be a strong focus throughout our sessions.
We have a great lineup of industry experts to lead you. Bob Hall, our keynote speaker, is knowledgeable while always entertaining. Dave Fellman, Patrice Valentine, Bob Reynolds, Kurt Konow, Lynne Singerman, and Rick Littrell are committed to helping you grow and evolve. Our Trade Show on Friday will provide many opportunities for you to network with vendors and fellow owners.
